BALLACHULISH COMMUNITY COUNCIL

 

Minutes of Meeting held in Jubilee Pavilion on Tuesday 6 May 2008

 

Present:- M MacAskill - Chairman (MMA); D Campbell (DC); S Grant (SG); L MacAskill (LMA); R MacLaren (RML), T Whyte (TW); M Wilson (MW)

1.     Minutes of last meeting - Proposed LMA, Seconded RML.

 

2.     Underage Drinking / Youth Facilities

There was a recent incident on the late bus service.   RML, MW & Sgt DC met with Rapsons (the bus company).   Rapsons have now installed CCTV cameras on buses after 8pm.   Community Wardens are checking people getting on the late bus service.

 

3.     Speeding buses

Sgt DC will contact Highland Council with regard to possible engineering solutions to traffic calming in Albert Road and West Laroch.   Inspector John Chisholm to write to Citylink bus company with regard to speeding buses in Albert Road.

 

4.     Glencoe Police Station / Ambulance Service

Following representation from the community council, the Northern Constabulary has announced that the civilian presence at Glencoe Police Station is to be retained.   Sgt DC reported that Glencoe Police Station in its current condition was not suitable to house the local Ambulance depot.   ACTION ? MMA to contact Ambulance Service for an update on progress.

 

5.     Forestry Commission

Further to recent speculation in the press with regard to the re-opening of Khartoum quarry, Donald MacNeill from the Forestry Commission (FC), the owners of the quarry, was invited to attend the meeting to discuss the possibility of the community purchasing the Khartoum quarry.   DMN highlighted that there are other schemes available as well as purchasing the land that would give the community a say in what happens with the quarry.   Part of the FC remit is to work with the community and the FC is now aware of the community interest in Khartoum quarry.   ACTION ? Community Council to review the National Forest Land Scheme leaflet.
