BALLACHULISH COMMUNITY COUNCIL

Minutes of Meeting held in Jubilee Pavilion on Tuesday 2 March 2010

Minutes of last meeting - Proposed SB and seconded LMA.

Slate Monument – ongoing.

Fireworks / Bonfire night - ongoing.

Community Council – There are two vacancies on community council. It is possible to co-opt new members or to continue as we are.

Speeding Buses & Cars – still waiting for Highland Council’s response.

A82 Work – No response received directly from Bob Mitchell, Transport Scotland. ACTION – MMA & TW to write to Fergus Ewing MSP and Charles Kennedy MP with regard to the removal of the slip road into Ballachulish and other concerns re the cycle path and the lack of consultation.

New Co-operative Shop & Public Car Park at Village Hall – Still trying to arrange a meeting.

Roadworks in Village – Ongoing – to be included in meeting to be arranged with Highland Council.

Finances – Treasurer presented finance update. Invoices have been sent out for website advertising. Invite to go on website inviting local businesses to advertise on the community website.

Boatsheds – ongoing.

Outdoor Capital Noticeboards – Notice board should be up shortly.

Slate Monument – Everyone to give some thought to the open day for unveiling the slate monument.

Next South Ward Forum meeting is on Monday 17 May 2010 at Strontian.

Association of South Lochaber Community Councils (ASLCC) - date of next meeting is Monday 12 April 2010.

Litter pick – school still to be approached.

Robbie Milne, Highland Council is looking into the issues with the lights at the underpass now that Scottish Water contractor has finished working on the path.

Cllr Bren Gormley joined the meeting.

Path at underpass – the path has been renewed when the Scottish Water contractor was working but the remainder of the path requires some work. The railing that was replaced by the Scottish Water contractor is not of the same quality as was previously there. There are also issues with Japanese knotweed on this path. ACTION – Cllr BG to take a look at the path and speak to Ian Bruce-Low.

Stephen Norris, Oban Times joined the meeting.

Scottish Water – It was agreed at the ASLCC meeting that this item would be taken off their minutes and be discussed on the agendas of the individual community councils. There was a discussion between the Chairman and Cllr BG regarding the Scottish Water subject.

Witches Slate ACTION – DC to liaise directly with Cllr BG with regard to Highland Council contact.

War Memorial – Concerns have been expressed by St John’s Church should the war memorial be moved into the village. Further comments on the issue are welcome.

Bus timetables – updated timetables to be confirmed.

MacColl Terrace to School Brae – issue to be raised at meeting with Highland Council under “Safe route to school” initiative.

Grit Bins – had requested these for the Jubilee Park path but still do not have them. ACTION – Cllr BG to follow up.

Winter gritting – appears that “appearance gritting” is still be carried out by Transerv. ACTION Cllr BC requested to look into this.

The Laroch bridge at the bottom of Brecklet has been damaged. ACTION – SG to phone Highland Council.

E-planning has been introduced by Highland Council who will communitcate with community councils electronically.

Various leaflets from Lochaber Environmental Group were circulated.

Glencoe Hospital – the community council has displayed notices pointing out our views on the matter. Concerns were raised about mis-information being circulated.

List of correspondence for month circulated.

Next meeting is on Tuesday 6 April 2010.
