BALLACHULISH COMMUNITY COUNCIL

Minutes of Meeting held in Jubilee Pavilion on Tuesday 1 June 2010

Minutes of last meeting - Proposed SB and seconded KSmith.

Ballachulish Primary School Gala Day SC provided an outline of the activities planned for the school gala day on 20 June 2010.

Fireworks / Bonfire / Quarry - Ongoing

A82 Work – Response received from Transport Scotland to letter of complaint. Transport Scotland agreed that there was a lack of consultation but that the work that has been carried out is right and safe. The complaint will now be lodged with the Ombudsman.

Speeding Buses & Cars – Ongoing.

Village Walk-round meeting with Highland Council
Issues raised to be dealt with on a matter by matter basis.

Highland Comfort Scheme - Ongoing.

New Co-operative Shop & Public Car Park at Village Hall – MMA has been in contact with the Co-op, they have to come back with dates for a meeting.

Roadworks in Village – Ongoing.

Finances – Treasurer presented finance update. Request from Glenachulish for funding for a bench for their playpark. The Playpark Forum has funds and will pay for this. Invoices for grass cutting and painting benches proposed by MC and seconded by DC.

Playpark Forum – the Playpark Forum would like the community council to take over the running of the forum – need to give this some thought.

Witch’s Slate / Boatsheds – Ongoing.

Outdoor Capital Noticeboards – Ann Hackett at Highland Council has agreed for the HC architect to assist with the design of the plinths for the OCUK noticeboard and the obelisk. HC are to pay for both plinths.

Slate Monument – Office bearers meeting arranged for later this week will deal with this item. The first advertising banner on the new lamp posts on the path to the slate monument is in place. Any other businesses interested in having an advertising banner should contact the Community Council.

Hole in road at MacColl Terrace – Ongoing.

Path at underpass – Ongoing.

MacColl Terrace / School Brae – consideration to be given to painted road markings indicating pathway to school. ACTION – contact community safety officer.

War Memorial –ongoing.

Community Council Review – ACTION – office bearers to discuss at separate meeting.

Artwork at bus shelters – permission received from Highland Council. Artwork competition to be arranged.

Lochaber Housing Association wish to attend one of our meetings to report on their achievements and plans for the future. It was agreed a separate meeting should be arranged – ACTION – TW.

A recent meeting on tree-cutting was held by the residents of Laroch Beg – this had nothing to do with the community council.

An anonymous letter on tree-cutting was received by the Chairman. The community council cannot and will not act on anonymous letters.

The Police Station at Glencoe will close on 18 June and re-open when the new building is completed towards the end of the year. The same number of staff will be operating in the area during this closure.

Residents at Angus Crescent have confirmed that the tubs were planted but bulbs were killed by frost. The residents will replant and look after them in memory of Marlene Sayer.

Concerns were raised at damage signs and windows in the vicinity of the drop-in centre on a Friday night. ACTION – MMA to follow up with youth worker.

In response to question on bilingual signage on core paths, it was decided that English only would be preferable.

Highland Council Planning & Development Service Access Team has secured funding for improvements to core paths and is inviting applications for suitable projects. ACTION –MMA & TW to meet with the Access Officer for Lochaber.
