BALLACHULISH COMMUNITY COUNCIL

Minutes of Meeting held in Jubilee Pavilion on Tuesday 1 April 2008

Present:- M MacAskill - Chairman (MMA); D Campbell (DC); S Grant (SG); L MacAskill (LMA); R MacLaren (RML)

1. Minutes of last meeting - Proposed RML, Seconded MMA.

2. Underage Drinking / Youth Facilities
LS to speak to the School Council in Kinlochleven High School and ask if they would like members of the Community Council to visit and discuss general Youth issues.

3. Speeding buses
Chief Inspector John Chisholm has written a letter to Rapsons.   Residents are concerned about the speed of traffic on the Albert Road section.   There are now a number of children in this area and there is grave concern for their safety.   ACTION - MMA to speak to the Sergeant and Ian Bruce-Low.

4. Community Website & Newsletter
Website will be up and running this week.   Articles are required for the next newsletter and should be e-mailed to
balcomnews@aol.com.

5. Grass cutting
Residents from MacColl Terrace have asked for the grass to be cut around the planters and the path to Croft Road requires some tidying up.   ACTION - MMA to speak to Dot Ferguson about the grass-cutting funding for the village.

6. Planning Notifications
Waste water treatment planning application rejected - ongoing.

7. Association of South Lochaber Community Councils
The constitution has been approved and office bearers have been elected.

8. A82 Work
a) A82 Working Group
b) A82 Speedlimit -Both the 40mph and the 50mph speedlimits are expected to be in place during May.
c) A82 Action Group - The website for the A82 Campaign has been a great success.   Log onto
http://epetitions.scottish.parliament.uk to support the campaign.   The next meeting of the Action Group is 16 May 2008 and Fergus Ewing will be attending.

9. School Brae
A member of the School Forum is to ask about the possibility of a pavement on the School Brae.   Sam Clark and Ian Bruce-Low to be contacted.

10. Planters & Quarry
We now have the estimates for the planters and for the Storage area in the Quarry.   Work can now be started.

11. Playpark & Jubilee Park -Ongoing.

12. Finances - RML presented the financial report as at 1st April 2008.

13. Notice Board - AA Whyte has agreed to repair the damage.

14. Boatsheds - Ongoing.

15. Footpaths & Cycle Paths
RML reported that the Kentallen to Ballachulish Bridge section of the cycle path has been completed.   Halcrow and Transport Scotland have agreed that the preferred route for the Bridge to Glencoe section is on the south side of the A82.   Concerns were raised about the space required for a cycle path on the south side of the A82 - ACTION - RML to contact Halcrows.

16. Information Boards - Area Manager of Folio Hotels to be asked to next meeting - ACTION - LMA.

17. Ward Forum - Next meeting is in the Council Chambers in Fort William on 12 May at 6:30pm.

18. Glencoe Police Station - Awaiting progress report.

19. Slate Arch -Ongoing.

20. Road condition between the bank & shop - Co-op have agreed to carry out the repairs.


21. Glencoe Hospital
Jo Cowan has been in contact with regard to finding a volunteer to run the Ballachulish & Glencoe Afternoon Club for older people.

22. A O C B
- Picnic Table on Quarry footpath - ACTION - MMA to contact Dot Ferguson.
- Slated entrance at TIC requires maintenance - ACTION - DC to follow up with Arches Craft Shop.
- Lighting - RML spoke to Robert Milne about the lights to be replaced at the Arch and was told 'his department don't seem to have the time to install them'.   Also awaiting Pea lights for the trees in the Jubilee Park.
- Public meeting to be held in the Jubilee Pavilion on 17th April at 7pm - Ballachulish Development Plan.   Ballachulish Community Council and Ballachulish Community Company welcome the Community to tell us what they want and what they do NOT want for the Ballachulish area.
- Concerns were raised about the re-opening of the Ballachulish Quarry after the article in the newspaper.   MMA has contacted Colin Tennant of SSLG and he said that if required he would come to a meeting but at the moment there was nothing to report.   ACTION - MMA to contact Donald MacNeill
- Co-op concerns - Dogs are too close to the shop door as children come out; Door closing on customers; Mess outside the building; What is happening with the new building.

Next meeting is on Tuesday 6th May 2008.
