Primary Shinty Steps Up A Gear At Festival
Work to introduce shinty into some west Lochaber primaries is stepping up as primary schools in west Lochaber battled for the Ardnamurchan Cup as part of the Blas festival in Strontian.

The competition was supported by Ardnamurchan Camanachd, Ardnamurchan High School and local active schools co-ordinators. The weather forced the teams indoors and a total of six primary schools took part in the event; Caol, Kinlochleven, Ballachulis, Lochaline, Glencoe and Acharacle. All of the schools have either introduced shinty recently or in some cases reintroduced the game.

The teams played a round robin competition with the top two going through to the final. Caol and Ballachulish finished top of the league and played for the cup. This was a pulsating final with both teams showing a lot of skill and determination. Caol come through in the end winning narrowly 2-1. The competition was a huge success and it is hoped small primary schools in the West Lochaber can regularly meet and play thoughout the winter.
