Ballachulish Find Oban Celtic Too Hot To Handle

South Division One
Ballachulish 1
Oban Celtic 4

Ballachulish found Oban Celtic too much of a handful at Jubilee Park - and had a man sent off as their frustrations boiled over towards the end.

The home side edged the first quarter hour in a tousy encounter, but gradually Celtic came on to a game while Ballachulish struggled to maintain any continuity to their play. A fine sweeping move almost brought Oban their first goal on 31 minutes and only a desperate goal-line clearance denied Neil Carmichael after good work from Alan Miller down the left.

From the resultant corner Celtic deservedly went ahead, David Duffy taking advantage of hesitation in the Ballachulish defence to fire home from 14 yards. Boosted by the goal, Celtic continued to dominate and three minutes before half time the impressive Miller made it 2-0 with an unstoppable 25-yard shot high into the net.

The interval changed little in terms o momentum and the visitors extended their lead on 49 minutes when David Duffy floated a ball through from midfield for Alan Duffy to finish from eight yards. To their credit Ballachulish never gave up the fight - and gave themselves a glimmer of hope on 55 minutes after Gary Young latched on to a free hit from the right to score from close range and reduce the deficit to two. But the home side's hopes of completing to revival disappeared completely on 80 minutes following a flare up between David MacPhee and Iain MacKechnie, the former getting his marching orders for using his caman in a way other than that for which it was intended.

A man down, there was no way bck for Ballachulish and Oban made it 4-1 through Kenny Wotherspoon with four minutes left. This Saturday, Ballachulish have no match while Oban Celtic travel to Lochgilphead to play Kilmory in the league with only one league point between the teams although Celtic have played two games more.
